  1. Keep all device, including mobile, operating systems and web browsers up-to-date. - There are always new security flaws and vulnerabilities that must be patched. Most operating systems and web browsers allow you to set it up so that updates automatically install when released.

  2. Keep apps up-to-date. - A lot of users are good at keeping operating systems and web browsers up-to-date, but then forget about all of the other applications they use on their computer or mobile device. These need to be updated as well and most of these also have the ability to turn on updates automatically when released.

  3. Use security software - Security software is an important layer of protection for your devices and can include anti-virus software and firewall protection.

  4. Backup your data - A backup is a copy of your digital files that can help protect you from data loss that may occur in the event that your device or data become inaccessible, destroyed, or damaged through a computer or hardware crash, a lost or stolen device, data corruption, or malware that encrypts it and holds it for ransom.
